Quick Look: NFB offers over 2,000 films from the National Film Board of Canada. The NFB app provides ten "channels" of titles: Biography, Women in Cinema, Aboriginal Peoples, Kid's Movies, Human Rights, New Releases, Most Popular, Arts, The Green Channel, and Hot Topics. However, all films on the NFB website are available on the Roku app through the in-channel search feature.
Films currently listed as "most popular" include The Cat Came Back (1988), an Oscar-nominated animation based on the folk song of the same name; Carts of Darkness (2008), an hour-long documentary the follows a group of homeless men who have combined bottle picking with racing shopping carts down the steep hills of North Vancouver; and How to Build an Igloo (1949), a classic short film in which two Inuit men show how to make an igloo using only snow and a knife.
In addition to its huge selection of free films, the app offers several useful features such as allowing users to select the video quality to select English or French, providing a watchlist to save titles for future viewing, and suggesting titles similar to what you've selected.
