SORRY - Nowhere Music is no longer available as a private/non-certified channel on Roku. For additional information, please visit the Nowhere Music discussion on Roku Forums.
RokuGuide Channel Description: Google Music users can now listen to their music collection (well, the first 5,000 songs anyway) on their Roku player using the private channel Nowhere Music. But before discussing the channel, let me give you an overview of Google Music for those not familiar with the service. If you're already a Google Music user, just jump below the advertisement for more information on the Nowhere Music channel.
Google Music is a free service that allows you to upload up to 20,000 songs from your computer. You can then listen to those songs on your Android phone or tablet... or your Roku. You can also create custom playlists from your music collection, and those playlists are available on the other devices. You can, of course, also purchase music directly from Google, which provides Google the incentive to offer this service for free. Think of this as iTunes for Android.
One caution to new Google Music users: it may take days and a lot of bandwidth to upload a large music collection. The Google Music upload app also autoloads itself and resumes uploads your songs in the background when you reboot your computer. I learned this the hard way: after 12 hours with a painfully slow Internet connection and after an hour of troubleshooting with AT&T Uverse, I finally found that over a thousand songs had been uploading in the background all day. Okay, enough about my IT problems, back to Nowhere Music...
Once you have your music collection uploaded to Google Music, open Nowhere Music on your Roku. You'll be prompted to log into Google Music, and that's all you need to do to have access to your songs and playlists. You can sort your music by song title, artist, album title, or genre, and you can even search through your collection.
Nowhere Music is the creation of The Nowhere Man, a Roku developer who has provided us with several excellent private channels including Nowhere TV and LibriVox. The Nowhere Man's channel are free, but if you would like to support his development efforts and keep these great free channels coming, you can make a one-time or recurring donation at TheNowhereMan.com. Since Nowhere Music is not endorsed or supported by Google, however, you'll need to direct questions and feature requests for this Roku app to the Google Music discussion topic on Roku Forums. Also, as pointed out the first time you load Nowhere Music on your Roku, this app could disappear at any time.
