Quick Look: GoActive provides immersive videos that make it seem like you're exercising outdoors when you're actually stuck inside on our bike or other workout equipment. Videos are categorized by exercise type:
- Bike (stationary,exercise, or trainer)
- Elliptical
- Treadmill
- Rowing Machine
Bike videos provide a first-person perspective with GoPro-style videos such as "cruising down Corral Canyon," "Biking up Fisher Point Trail," and "Biking Around San Francisco Bay Area." For an elliptical workout, you can run down Camelback Mountain, hike up Polly's Kitchen Mountain, or take a "relaxing walk on the snow."
Although this premise behind this channel is a good idea, the execution leaves a lot to be desired. I found the San Francisco Bay biking trip to be a somewhat motion-sickness-inducing, as the rider's head was moving side to side while the video was recorded. The video "Hezekiahs Tunnel from Start to Finish" could never simulate being on an elliptical machine, unless you continually stop exercising to look around, check your footing and try to figure out which way to go. And for some unknown reason, the single rowing machine video ("A sea kayaking journey form the Ross of Mull to Iona") is shown with a split screen, with the top half being the immersive experience and the bottom half showing the paddler in a 90-degree rotated video (see screenshot below). The videos seem to be amateur GoPro recordings rather than professional immersive productions.
The channels are supposed to be audio-free, but they actually do provide ambient sounds that were recorded with the video. In addition to the videos you will find a handful of thumbnail icons that provide additional information about the channel and what is offered.
