Quick Look: Movie Guide - Find Free Movies is a Roku channel search engine that lets you browse movies and TV shows available on several Roku channels. However, the channel name is misleading, as several of the channels require a subscription to view the listed content. Also misleading is the Roku Channel Store description, which promises that you can easily see all available free movies across Roku. In fact, only the following channels are currently available in this app:
HBOmax and Peacock, which are not yet available on Roku, are listed as "Coming Soon," as is CBS.
The app's home screen offers a glimpse at what's new on each of the listed streaming services. For each services, the new listings are listed in one row, so you will need to do a lot of scrolling. You can also select an individual service from the top of the home screen and will then also be able to see what is popular on that service and can browse by genre.
When you select a movie or TV show, you will have the option to view a trailer from within the Movie Guide app. If you want to watch the full video, a link from the app will (hopefully) take you directly to that video within the relevant service's own Roku app. I say hopefully because Movie Guide was a bit fussy when I used it. It would sometimes take me to the selected movie, and other times would dump me back to the Roku home screen and lock up my Roku for a brief period of time.
If you're looking for a specific title, Movie Guide has a search function, but you will probably be better served using Roku's search function. Roku search will search a much larger selection of apps while also allowing you to compare costs between services when a free option is not available.
