Quick Look: The Xfinity Stream Beta app allows Comcast Xfinity TV customers to access their cable service, including live and on-demand programming and cloud DVR recordings, on select Roku streaming devices and Roku TVs. The app is still in development, but Comcast is seeking feedback before the official launch. Being a beta there are a number of limitations that Comcast is working to address:
- Users cannot rent or buy programming or play back previously purchased programs in the beta.
- Customers must subscribe to both Xfinity TV and Xfinity Internet service to use the Roku app (Comcast says that they are "working hard to make cable-only gateway equipment available soon").
- At least one Comcast-provided TV box, a CableCARD and a compatible IP gateway must be present.
The app is also available to Xfinity Stream customers with a compatible Xfinity IP gateway.
You will also need a compatible Roku device. Xfinity TV Beta app is initially available on all Roku TV models and all Roku players released in the last couple of years, including the Roku Express, Roku Express+, Roku Streaming Stick (model 3600), Roku Premiere, Roku Premiere+, Roku Ultra, Roku 4 (model 4400), Roku 3 (model 4230 and 4200) and Roku 2 (model 4210).)
If you meet all of these requirements, you can get started by installing the app and following the on-screen authentication instructions.
