Quick Look: Mines-Seeker is a Roku version of the classic single-player video game Minesweeper. The object of this puzzle game is to clear a minefield, which consists of a grid of squares, without detonating any of the randomly placed hidden mines. (See the screenshot farther down on this page.)
Mines-Seeker offers three levels of difficulty: Beginner (9x9 grid), intermediate (16x16) and advanced (30x17). To play, use your Roku remote to highlight any cell in the grid, then press the OK button. If that cell contains a mine, the game is over. If no mine is revealed but a mine is in one or more adjacent cells, then the selected cell shows a number indicating the number of adjacent cells that contain a mine. Using information on the number of adjacent mines, try to identify which cells contain mines. If you think you have located a bomb select the square and click the "Replay" button. Correctly identify the locations of all mines while clearing all remaining empty cells, and you win.
The top of the screen has a running tally of the number of bombs left to reveal, along with a timer showing how long you have been playing.
The biggest fault of this game is that it plays a commercial at the beginning and end of each game. If you lose on your first move, you have to sit through another commercial before starting over. There are additional versions of Minesweeper on Roku, with our preference being the free Minesweeper Deluxe from PC-Magic Software, LLC.
