Snake

Snake is one of several Roku variations of the Snake video game genre that originated in 1976. As with other versions of the game, the "snake" consists of a head that you move left/right and up/down to eat items (such as apples), causing the snake to growing longer. The objective is to eat as many items as possible without the snake's head running into itself or a wall.

This version of the game has nine levels of play. You must get 500 points on each level to proceed to the next level. If you plan to get your name on the leaderboards (daily, weekly, monthly, and all time), select Profile from the menu in the upper right corner of the home screen to enter your own handle and select an avatar. If there are multiple players in your household, each player can have their own profile.

The game does have one glitch: If you don't get enough points to move to the next level, the game asks you if you want to keep going by watching an ad, but when we reviewed this game the "Revive" button to do so wasn't able to be selected. This version of Snake also suffers from an annoying lag. The playing screen is overlain with blocks (see screenshots below) and you must click the remote to change direction one square ahead of the snake's head reaching that point. The original Roku version of this game from 2015, SNAKE, has no lag and offers a much more enjoyable playing experience, as well as the ability to choose between an open or walled (classic) game and to change speeds. That version also has multiple themes and a much larger playing field.
